We were recently called to a property in Bristol where there had been regular sightings of a mouse running up and down a lounge in the evenings. the mouse or mice were seen over several days and seemed unconcerned about their human observers.
The customers had considered and tried traps and poison without a positive result, so decided to call in the professionals. In 2022 I had helped them exterminate a wasp nest, so they said I was the perfect person to help them with this pest issue as well.
On arrival we carried out the usual checks and located a number of ventilation bricks that would need to mesh covers and located what appeared to be the main points of entry into lounge.
Control measures were applied and visits scheduled, but it was my second visit to the property that held the surprise!
On arrival the customer said "quick, quick, he's waiting for you on the window sill". I was a little surprised to hear this but nevertheless headed straight into the lounge where the mouse was sat, almost looking out the window.
I used the blinds to block the mouses escape and quite literally picked it up. House mice are not always very accommodating to our activities, so to literally catch one so quickly was an amazing result and the customer was thrilled.
Handling rodents should only be done if you have been trained to do it safely and humanely and always wear gloves to reduce any cross contamination issues.
